Queensland State Champs

VP Pro reports – “During the past weekend, Queensland State Championships took place in Townsville, Australia, VP PRO team driver Jason Dyckhoff TQ and won the truggy class and also won the buggy class. Other team members: Brad Smith , Ian Haley and Justin Millan also did a great job at the race.

Below is race report from Jason:

The track was made from a granet base and caused a fair bit of tyre wear but more so chassis wear, very abrasive on all the jump sections and by the end of the weekend both the buggy and truggy chassis were getting quite thin. I opted to run both classes this year and even though it was double the work at the end of the race meet the extra track time that I was getting certainly paid off. Truggy- In the truggy class I had won 4 out of the 6 qualifiers which was a guaranteed TQ position, After qualifying was sorted out we went into the semi finals, I drove a consistent race and came home with a semi win and a quicker time than other semi lining me up off first for the final.

TRUGGY FINAL.
After getting off to a relatively good start I held onto first position although second was close behind and ready to apply pressure if a mistake came, I slowly started to pull away and at the end of the 45 minute final I crossed the line in first position and very pleased with my efforts.

Buggy- In the buggy class I had an up and down time with qualifying with a mechanical and a couple of engine issues hurting my qualifying position after the end of qualifying I was sitting in 10th place, Then onto the semi and after starting good from 5th position I worked my way through the field to win the semi although I would start from second for the main final as my time was slightly slower that the other semi.

BUGGY FINAL.
I got off to a great start in the buggy final taking over the lead in the first lap and coming over the line after the first lap 7 seconds up on second, I continued to push hard and had managed by about half way through to have a lead of about 25-30 seconds. That is pretty much how big the gap remained until the finish crossing the line with the win some 26 seconds up on second. I ran a different combination of tyres all weekend from 804 to 801 to settling on using the 804 and 904 in the semi and finals in both classes, they provided me with all the traction I needed to take the double win. So two finals and two wins and I was extremely happy with the result at the end of the weekends racing.” [Source - VP Pro]
