General RC Survey 2007 *Results*
Well the results are in; it’s been a long wait however it’s all over now! Overall 233 RC addicts completed our survey and here is what they had to say –

1. How many R/C Cars do you own?
The top three responses were as follows –
1st ‘Two’ with 46 votes
2nd ‘Three’ with 39 votes
3rd ‘Four’ with 29 votes
As you can see the majority of people own four of less RC’s however missing third place by just one point was ‘More than 10’ which makes things a little more interesting!
2. What brand of R/C Car do you prefer the most?
The top three responses were as follows –
1st ‘Other’ with 45 votes
2nd ‘Team Associated’ with 32 votes
3rd ‘HPI’ with 20 votes
Joint fourth were ‘Team Losi’ and ‘Kyosho’ both with 18 votes. Even though we listed as many main manufactures as we could think of most people voted for other which could mean two things. Firstly we may have forgotten to include a popular manufacture or secondly more and more people are buying cars from new and upcoming manufactures.
3. What type(s) of R/C vehicle have you owned?
The top three responses were as follows –
1st ‘Both On-Road and Off-Road’ with 147 votes
2nd ‘Off-Road Only’ with 45 votes
3rd ‘On-Road Only’ with 23 votes
We were quite surprised by the responses we received from this question, 147 people have once in their RC life owned both an on-road and off-road vehicle!
4. What type of electric motor do you use the most?
The following responses were from 158 people who are involved in electric RC.
The top three responses were as follows –
1st ‘Brushless’ with 74 votes
2nd ‘Modified’ with 44 votes
3rd ‘Stock’ with 41 votes
People have always said that brushless technology will one day dominate the electric RC scene, well that day is now! Out of the 158 electric motor users 74 people are using brushless technology.
5. What type of cell do you use the most?
The following responses were from the 176 people who chose to answer this question.
The top three responses were as follows –
1st ‘NiMh’ with 147 votes
2nd ‘LiPO’ with 24 votes
3rd ‘NiCad’ with 8 votes
I personally thought that at least 50 people would be using Lipo’s but as you can see I was wrong!
6. What size is your nitro Engine?
The following responses were from the 153 people who chose to answer this question.
The top three responses were as follows –
1st ‘.21’ with 59 votes
2nd ‘.12’ with 29 votes
3rd ‘.28’ with 19 votes
As you can see people are using a range of engine sizes!
7. Do you use a starter box?
The following responses were from the 130 people who chose to answer this question.
The responses were as follows –
1st ‘Yes’ with 91 votes
2nd ‘No’ with 39 votes
It all depends on what type of RC you are using to determine if you require a starter box or not!
8. What type of R/C do you prefer?
The following responses were from the 213 people who chose to answer this question.
The responses were as follows –
1st ‘Electric’ with 122 votes
2nd ‘Nitro’ with 91 votes
We tried to provide information about this survey evenly across the RC world both electric and nitro however by the looks of things electric was the most popular from the responses we collected!
9. Is your main R/C 2WD or 4WD?
The following responses were from the 215 people who chose to answer this question.
The responses were as follows –
1st ‘4WD’ with 160 votes
2nd ‘2WD’ with 55 votes
As you know 4wd is widely used with both on-road and off-road kits!
10. What frequencies do you use the most?
The following responses were from the 213 people who chose to answer this question.
The top three responses were as follows –
1st ‘2.4Ghz (Spektrum)’with 95 votes
2nd ‘40Mhz’ with 74 votes
3rd ‘27MhZ’ with 44 votes
Well Spektrum have really done well for themselves, with 95 people out of 213 people using their technology!
11. Do you paint your own body shells?
The following responses were from the 215 people who chose to answer this question.
The top three responses were as follows –
1st ‘Yes’ with 95 votes
2nd ‘Sometimes’ with 55 votes
3rd ‘No’ with 49 votes
I could never paint a shell very well so normaly get someone else spray it for me but by the looks of things most people are giving it ago themselves!
12. How much do you spend as an average on R/C per year?
The top three responses were as follows –
1st ‘£100 - £500’ with 53 votes
2nd ‘£501 - £1000’ with 52 votes
3rd ‘£1001 - £1500’ with 47 votes
With only one vote separating the top two it’s getting rather close!
13. How many years have you been involved in the R/C hobby?
The top three responses were as follows –
1st ‘More then 15’ with 58 votes
2nd ‘2-5’ with 49 votes
3rd ‘5-10’ with 39 votes
From looking at the figures there are more experienced RC users out there then beginners, which is a little worrying!
14. Do you race in organized events?
The following responses were from the 215 people who chose to answer this question.
The responses were as follows –
1st ‘Yes’ with 158 votes
2nd ‘No’ with 57 votes
Personally I’m glad to see people racing RC you learn so much more at events well I think so anyway!
15. Where do you purchase most of your R/C items from?
The top three responses were as follows –
1st ‘The Internet’ with 123 votes
2nd ‘Local Hobby Shops’ with 66 votes
3rd ‘Mail Order’ with 18 votes
You may argue that people that complete this online survey are more likely to buy from online stores which is a very good point however they are the results!
16. Do you prefer On-Road or Off-road the most?
The following responses were from the 214 people who chose to answer this question.
The responses were as follows –
1st ‘Off-Road’ with 154 votes
2nd ‘On-Road’ with 60 votes
From micro off-roaders to 1.8th monsters, off-road is the people’s choice!
17. How often do you look at R/C related websites?
The top three responses were as follows –
1st ‘At least once a day’ with 181 votes
2nd ‘Every other day’ with 24 votes
3rd ‘Twice a week’ with 6 votes
With so many great RC websites online there are simply more websites available then hours in a day!
18. Which R/C magazine do you buy the most?
The top three responses were as follows –
1st ‘Radio Control Car Racer’ with 52 votes
2nd ‘Radio Race Car International’ with 48 votes
3rd ‘Other’ with 42 votes
Looks like we should have included more choices!
19. Do you plan on buying another R/C in the future?
The following responses were from the 215 people who chose to answer this question.
The responses were as follows –

2nd ‘No’ with 13 votes
The future looks good for RC manufacturers!

I was amazed when looking at these figures but its true they really did all have five votes each! We would like to congratulate Neil Cragg for being nominated the favourite driver!
