Steve Shakespear wins Nitro X Cross Rd7
Weston Park Model Air Show were the hosts to the 7th and 8th round of the Nitro X Cross summer series run this past weekend by the East Shrewsbury crew.
With the 7th round taking place on the Saturday, the 54 rallycross and 5 truggy drivers were greeted with an all grass track with a small jump located to the left / middle of the arrangement and of course the great British summer rain. Light drizzle turned into heavy showers steadily throughout the day, turning the track from grass to mud just at the same rate.
With this being the first day of the two day racing weekend, practice started at around 9:15 with drivers faced with 1 round of practice followed by 3 rounds of qualifying and the respected finals.The first round of qualifying saw Josh Powney take a strong lead with 10 laps in 5:23 however it was Nathan Powney who secured TQ position after winning both the 2nd and 3rd rounds. So the top 3 at the end of the 3 rounds of qualifying looked like:

John Howells also put in a strong performance winning 2 of the 3 qualifying rounds in truggy…

Onto the 20 minute finals and it was Steve Shakespear who took 1st place in buggy followed by Clive Malland in second with Scott Francis completing the podium. Unfortunately due to transmitter problems, TQ Nathan Powney finished in 7th.

The truggy finalist seamed unphased by the heavy rain and continued to demonstrate their skill. John Howells took the overall victory followed by Lloyd Pitt and Graham Howard.
